Pueblo, CO – Residents and travelers in Colorado’s Central Mountains should prepare for light to moderate snow through Thursday evening. Snow accumulations of 2 to 5 inches are forecast, with locally higher amounts possible north of Cottonwood Pass.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), snow will develop today and continue overnight, creating hazardous travel conditions. Slick roads, particularly along Cottonwood Pass and I-70, are expected to persist. Travelers should use extreme caution and be prepared for reduced visibility caused by patchy blowing snow.
Thursday will bring continued snow across the region with temperatures remaining below freezing. Highs will reach only the mid-20s at higher elevations. Winds from the northwest, up to 15 mph, could create additional challenges, particularly for exposed roadways and mountain passes.
The extended forecast for the region indicates partly sunny skies on Friday with highs near 30, followed by warmer conditions Saturday, reaching mid-40s. However, a chance of rain and snow returns late Saturday night into Sunday.
The NWS has urged drivers to carry winter survival kits, including extra water, blankets, and food, when traveling through mountain areas this week. Skiers and hikers should check avalanche forecasts before venturing into the backcountry.
Stay informed by checking the latest updates from the National Weather Service and local emergency management agencies. Residents should also allow extra time for commutes and plan to avoid travel during peak snow periods.
