Grand Rapids, MI – Snow showers and freezing conditions are forecast for southwest Michigan tonight, potentially creating hazardous travel on US-131 and nearby roadways. A mix of lake effect snow and plummeting temperatures will create slick conditions, particularly west of US-131, starting late Tuesday and extending into Wednesday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Rapids, snow is expected to begin after 7 p.m., with a 20% chance of light accumulation by midnight. Winds from the northwest at 5–10 mph will contribute to icy roads, with temperatures dropping to a low of 17 degrees overnight. Drivers are urged to reduce speeds and allow extra travel time, especially in low-visibility areas near Lake Michigan.

Looking ahead, Wednesday will bring a 50% chance of snow showers, especially during the afternoon hours, with a high near 24 degrees. Overnight, another round of snow is possible, with up to half an inch of accumulation expected. These conditions will persist into the weekend, with additional snow showers likely Friday and Sunday.

Travelers are advised to monitor local weather updates and prepare for slippery conditions on secondary roads and interstates, especially during peak commute hours.

By Thursday, partly sunny skies will provide a brief respite with a high of 26 degrees, though nighttime temperatures will dip to 16 degrees. The region should expect fluctuating conditions throughout the week, with snow showers making a return Friday afternoon.

Be sure to follow updates from the National Weather Service and adjust travel plans as needed.
