Lubbock, TX – Snow is expected across the South Plains starting Wednesday morning, with freezing temperatures creating potentially hazardous travel conditions.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Lubbock, light snow accumulation may begin before noon Wednesday, primarily over the Caprock region. Temperatures will struggle to rise above 35°F, with early morning lows near 22°F. East-southeast winds at 5–10 mph could add to the chill, making outdoor conditions uncomfortable.

Hazardous conditions may worsen on Thursday as heavier snow is forecast, with a 60% chance of additional accumulation. Drivers on US 84 and Interstate 27 should prepare for potentially icy roads and limited visibility, particularly in early morning hours. The NWS warns that roadways could become slippery, increasing the risk of accidents.

The extended forecast shows improving conditions by Friday, with mostly sunny skies and a high of 38°F. Over the weekend, temperatures will rebound to the mid-50s, offering relief from the midweek cold snap. Despite the improvement, nighttime lows will remain in the low 20s, so residents should take precautions to protect outdoor plants and pets from freezing temperatures.

The NWS advises South Plains residents to monitor updates and exercise caution while traveling, especially on Wednesday and Thursday. Local authorities encourage residents to stock up on essential supplies, including food, water, and warm clothing, ahead of potentially disruptive weather.
