Cheyenne, WY – Smoke from two wildfires, the Elk Fire in Sheridan County and the Pack Trail Fire in Teton and Fremont counties, drifted into parts of Wyoming Sunday afternoon. The National Weather Service reports that hazy skies and some surface smoke are impacting areas, particularly along the US-20 corridor.

According to the National Weather Service, surface winds will shift late Sunday evening, with southerly flow expected to improve conditions by Tuesday morning. This wind pattern could clear the smoke, although some additional smoke may return by Tuesday afternoon.

Winds will play a crucial role in determining air quality over the next few days. Late tonight, a southern wind pattern is expected to reduce surface-level smoke. However, forecasters caution that low confidence exists for smoke conditions Tuesday. Residents along the US-20 corridor should stay informed about local air quality alerts.
