CHICAGO, IL – Illinois Humanities and the Smithsonian collaborate on “Spark! Places of Innovation,” a traveling exhibition celebrating rural innovation.
The exhibition will tour seven Illinois communities from June 17, 2023, to Spring 2024. Equality, Hillsboro, Chatsworth, Rushville, Marshall, Atlanta, and Fairbury are featured, with five towns hosting the tour. Local organizations will highlight each community’s stories and events.
“Spark!” aims to showcase Illinois’ spirit of invention and resourcefulness. The exhibition begins in Equality, focusing on the town’s historical figures and landmarks.

- September 9 – October 14, 2023: Chatsworth, IL

- January 13 – February 17, 2024: Havana, IL
- February 24 – March 30, 2024: Marshall, IL
This collaboration marks the 13th partnership between Illinois Humanities and the Museum on Main Street program.
