Chicago, IL – A man has been arrested for allegedly threatening a mass shooting at the Lake County courthouse.
According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began on June 14 when a man allegedly passed a note to a security guard at a Riverwalk restaurant in Chicago. The note indicated a planned shooting at the courthouse, allegedly making threatening remarks toward a Lake County judge and a Chicago police officer assigned to the FBI.
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation, and on June 27, the man was allegedly spotted again at the Riverwalk area. He was identified as Daniel B. Pederson, 42, of Chicago, and taken into custody by Chicago police. Pederson faces charges of allegedly threatening a public official, a Class 3 felony.
Pederson was transported to the Lake County Jail on June 28 and is pending his first court appearance. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office plans to file a petition for his detention. Additional charges may follow.
