Corydon, IN – A 77-year-old man, missing since Wednesday, was found deceased on Friday after an extensive search effort near Corydon, Indiana.

According to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department, the man, identified as Joe R. Rothrock of Jeffersonville, was last seen on April 23. He had been reported missing after his vehicle was found at a family campsite along the Blue River, but neither Mr. Rothrock nor his dog was located at the scene.

Search efforts, which included tracking dogs, drones, kayaks, and a DNR dive team, spanned the area surrounding the campsite. Two and a half hours into the search, Mr. Rothrock’s dog was discovered deceased in the river. Search efforts continued along the river, but operations were temporarily halted due to deteriorating weather conditions.

On Friday morning, operations resumed, and DNR officers navigated upstream from Leavenworth. Around 10:00 a.m., Harrison County officers located a body approximately 800 feet west of the campsite. The body was identified as Mr. Rothrock. The Harrison County Coroner’s Office assisted in recovering the body.

Preliminary evidence from the scene suggests there were no signs of foul play, but the exact cause of death will be determined following an autopsy.

Mr. Rothrock’s family has been notified, and the investigation remains ongoing.
