La Salle, IL – A suspicious vehicle in La Salle led to a police response Saturday afternoon, after reports surfaced that the driver was offering money to children in the neighborhood, sparking fears of a possible child abduction. The incident took place around 12:30 p.m. on the 900 block of Marquette Street.

According to the La Salle Police Department, the situation first gained attention on social media, where it was mistakenly interpreted as an attempted abduction. People were alarmed after it was reported that the driver had been offering money to kids, which raised concerns about their safety.

Upon investigation, police determined that the driver had simply been handing out money to children as Easter gifts. However, the gesture was misinterpreted, causing unnecessary panic in the area. The driver has been identified and was interviewed by authorities. He expressed regret for the confusion and assured police there was no harmful intent.

Although no criminal wrongdoing was found, the case will be reviewed for a possible violation of city ordinances regarding disturbing the peace, following the widespread alarm caused in the community.

La Salle police confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the safety of residents.
