Scott County, IN – Authorities are investigating after an unidentified deceased person was discovered Monday morning near the Knob Stone Trail in rural Scott County.
According to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched at approximately 10:19 a.m. Monday, June 29, to the vicinity of the Knob Stone Trail after receiving a report of an abandoned vehicle.
When deputies arrived, they located the vehicle and began investigating the scene. The Indiana Department of Natural Resources’ Conservation Officers were notified and responded to assist with a search of the surrounding area.
During that search, authorities discovered the body of an unidentified deceased person.
Officials said the remains have been recovered, and a forensic examination has been scheduled to determine the cause of death and positively identify the individual. Investigators expect those results to take approximately six to eight weeks.
Sheriff Jerry Goodin said the investigation remains active.
“We are saddened by the discovery of the body found yesterday. This is an active investigation. There will be more information released later once we have all the answers possible concerning this death.”
Authorities have not released the identity of the deceased or indicated whether foul play is suspected. Officials say no additional information is available at this time as investigators continue to examine all leads.
