Scott County, IN – Scott County deputies arrested a father-son duo accused of attempting a drug drop at an inmate worksite. On September 20, Sheriff’s Deputy Tim Applegate noticed a man repeatedly entering and leaving a restroom near the inmate crew in Scottsburg. Suspecting suspicious activity, he requested backup.
Deputies searched the restroom and found controlled substances. Investigators identified the man as Charles E. Simpson, 61, of Scottsburg. They allege he conspired with his son, Justin Simpson, 36, an inmate working nearby, to deliver drugs.
Authorities arrested Charles E. Simpson on multiple charges, including conspiracy to traffic with an inmate and possession of methamphetamine. His son, Justin Simpson, faces additional charges for his role in the alleged plot.
According to Scott County Sheriff’s Office, no drugs reached the jail. Deputies Tim Applegate, Donovan McCutcheon, and Jail Commander Doug Herlad led the investigation, concluding there were no other suspects.
Both suspects remain in custody pending further legal action.
