Zion, IL — A man from Zion is facing multiple alleged charges after a Lake County Special Investigations Group (SIG) investigation uncovered reported illegal firearms and drug trafficking activities. Amado Palma-Yanes, 38, was arrested on October 1, following a traffic stop by SIG detectives.
Detectives discovered that Palma-Yanes had an outstanding warrant from 2012 for unlawful possession of a controlled substance. During the stop, he provided a false identification card. SIG detectives also found cocaine in his possession.
A search of Palma-Yanes’ residence led to the discovery of three illegally owned firearms, one of which was a homemade gun without a serial number. Further evidence consistent with drug trafficking was seized from his home, including a safe flagged by a sheriff’s K9 for the presence of narcotics.
According to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office, Palma-Yanes faces multiple charges, including three counts of unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver. He is currently being held for a detention hearing.
