Wyoming – The wind is already rattling fences across the Wind River Basin, and stronger gusts are building by late morning. Blue skies stretch overhead, but this is not a calm day.
According to the National Weather Service in Riverton, a High Wind Warning remains in effect from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the Absaroka Mountains and Cody Foothills. Gusts between 55 and 70 mph are possible in exposed areas. Along the Wind Corridor, west winds of 25 to 40 mph will create difficult travel for high-profile vehicles on Wyoming Highway 789 and U.S. 26.
Riverton itself stays sunny with a high near 54. Winds gust above 20 mph through the afternoon. Low humidity and dry fuels mean elevated to near-critical fire weather conditions across central and southern Wyoming. Avoid outdoor burning and secure loose equipment.
The wind threat continues into Friday with another round of strong gusts in the mountains. Riverton warms to near 60 under sunny skies, offering a brief spring tease before the weekend shift.
Saturday holds mostly sunny skies and a high near 59. Clouds increase Saturday night. By Sunday, a slight chance of rain and snow develops after late morning with highs near 54. Any mix looks light, but brief wet roads could refreeze if temperatures dip into the 20s Sunday night. Flash freezing is a real concern this time of year.
March opens the door to steadier temperatures. Monday reaches the mid-50s with a slight shower chance, followed by sunny upper 50s to low 60s into midweek. Longer-range outlooks favor above-normal warmth across Wyoming.
