North Dakota – The Red River Valley wakes up to a sharp 19 degrees, and the air bites as light clouds drift over Grand Forks. Wind chills hover near 10, and the calm won’t last long.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Forks, sunshine pushes highs near 35 today with southwest winds shifting west. Gusts increase tonight, reaching 28 mph as patchy blowing snow develops after 3 a.m. Drivers along I-29 and Highway 2 should watch for brief visibility drops toward early Friday.

Friday turns sharply colder. Temperatures fall through the day, sliding from the 30s toward the teens by afternoon. North winds strengthen to 24 to 29 mph, with gusts as high as 43 mph. Blowing snow may reduce visibility in open country, even without fresh accumulation. Secure loose items and allow extra travel time.

By Friday night, lows plunge to 3 below zero. Wind chills could dip as low as 18 below by early Saturday. Frostbite can develop quickly in exposed skin. Limit time outdoors and layer up.

Saturday stays frigid with a high near 3 degrees under partial sun. Saturday night drops to 13 below. Sunday rebounds slightly to 15 with bright skies, but icy patches may linger where daytime melting refreezes. Flash freezing remains a risk this time of year, especially on bridges.

March moderation begins Monday with highs near 34 and breezy conditions. Temperatures climb back into the 30s and potentially low 40s into midweek. Longer-range outlooks hint at above-normal readings returning to the Northern Plains.
