Lombard, Ill. — The Village of Lombard Government released information on Tuesday about a residential fire on Thursday, May 29.

At approximately 11:51 a.m. last Thursday, the Lombard Fire Department responded to an emergency call for a house fire. Vehicles arrived at the 1600 block of S. Highland Avenue at 11:54 a.m., where all residents were safely evacuated before their arrival. The initial call noted smoke in the basement of the house, and the fire department saw smoke coming from the residents at the scene.

No occupants were injured, but the house was deemed inhabitable due to damages. The fire did not spread to other areas of the house due to mutual aid efforts that extinguished the fire within ten minutes. The total loss was an estimated $100,000.

Using a hose line and with assistants from mutual aid departments, the firefighters were able to bring the fire under control. The Lombard Fire Department received aid from Elmhurst, Oakbrook Terrace and Villa Park Fire Departments, and the York Center Fire Protection District. The DuPage County Sheriff’s Office also led traffic and crowd control.

Crews called in utility providers ComEd and Nicor to shut off electric and gas services. The Lombard Fire Investigation Unit will continue to investigate the cause of the fire, but at this time it is not known.
