Rensselaer, IN – Domestic Dispute Escalates into Drug Arrest on Romaine Street

Rensselaer, IN – A domestic incident turned violent on January 8, 2024, in the 400 block of Romaine Street. 

According to the Rensselaer Police Department,  police were alerted to the situation involving 49-year-old Jerry Souders. Upon arrival, officers located Mr. Souders nearby, who had sustained a hand injury, allegedly from being stabbed by the female victim during the altercation.

The victim reported that Mr. Souders had assaulted her, causing visible facial injuries. She claimed to have used a knife to defend herself during the attack. In the subsequent search, police found glass pipes and substances believed to be Methamphetamine and other controlled pills in Mr. Souders’ possession. 

Souders was arrested and faces multiple charges, including domestic battery and possession of Methamphetamine, both level 6 felonies, along with misdemeanors for drug paraphernalia and controlled substance possession. Mr. Souders was treated for his injury before being detained at the Jasper County Jail.
