Reno, NV – Authorities have issued Red Flag Warnings for northeast California and northwest Nevada on Thursday, followed by warnings for the Basin and Range on Friday. These alerts are due to gusty winds reaching up to 40 mph and low relative humidity levels, heightening wildfire risks.
The Red Flag Warnings will be in effect from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. on both days. Officials urge residents to avoid activities that could spark fires, such as dragging chains or using open flames outdoors.
In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a Lake Wind Advisory for several lakes across the Sierra and Western Nevada, including Lake Tahoe, Pyramid Lake, and Mono Lake. The advisory will be active from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday.
Boaters should remain cautious, as wind gusts up to 40 mph could create hazardous conditions on the lakes. Small boats, kayaks, and paddleboards risk capsizing due to waves up to three feet.
Residents and visitors should stay informed and prepared as these weather conditions develop.
