Shreveport, LA — An Ozone Action Day has been declared for East Texas on Thursday, with high temperatures expected across the region. The National Weather Service in Shreveport warns that residents in Smith, Gregg, Upshur, Rusk, and Harrison counties should limit outdoor activities due to the elevated ozone levels.
Highs in the mid-90s will hit much of East Texas, with areas like Shreveport and Longview expected to reach 93°F. According to the NWS, a weak disturbance will bring slight rain chances in northern zones, though most areas will remain dry.
Residents should avoid prolonged outdoor exertion, as high ozone levels can cause respiratory issues, particularly in sensitive groups. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality advises reducing driving, idling, and burning yard waste to mitigate ozone levels.
Conditions on Thursday are expected to be partly cloudy with temperatures ranging from the upper 80s to mid-90s. These weather patterns are typical during the late summer months in the region.
