Racine County, WI – Residents looking to escape the summer heat have multiple options across Racine County, with local officials sharing an updated list of cooling centers available throughout the county.
According to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, the 2026 cooling center list includes libraries, community centers, municipal buildings, hospitals, and other public facilities where residents can seek relief during periods of hot weather. Hours of operation vary by location, and some facilities may have seasonal or event-specific schedules.
Among the locations listed are Raymond Village Hall, Burlington Library, Burlington Senior Center, Village of Rochester Library, Waterford Public Library, Racine Public Library, Racine Family YMCA, Dr. John Bryant Community Center, Tyler-Domer Community Center, Humble Park Community Center, Community Center at Douglas Park, and Racine County Human Services.
Several private businesses and organizations are also available as cooling locations, including Walmart Supercenters in Burlington and Sturtevant, Ascension All Saints Hospital, The Hospitality Center, The Home Depot, and Safe Haven of Racine, which serves youth ages 10 to 17.
Officials encourage residents, especially older adults, young children, individuals with chronic health conditions, and those without air conditioning, to take precautions during periods of extreme heat. Staying hydrated, limiting strenuous outdoor activities during the hottest parts of the day, and checking on vulnerable neighbors can help reduce the risk of heat-related illness.
Residents should verify operating hours before visiting a cooling center, as schedules may change based on the day of the week or weather conditions.
