Davenport, Iowa – Memorial Day travel across eastern Iowa and western Illinois is expected to stay mostly dry and warm, though a few morning showers could briefly affect parts of northeast Iowa before temperatures climb into the 80s across the Quad Cities region.
According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, isolated showers with a 20% to 40% chance of rain may develop across northeast Iowa early Memorial Day before drier conditions return for most of the holiday. Forecasters say temperatures will continue warming through Tuesday, with highs reaching the middle and upper 80s across much of the region.
Communities including Davenport, Bettendorf, Moline, Rock Island and Cedar Rapids are expected to see favorable outdoor conditions through Tuesday with light winds and periods of sunshine. Winds Monday may gust near 20 mph at times, especially across open rural areas and along Interstate 80. Aside from isolated morning showers north of the Quad Cities, most roads and travel corridors are expected to remain dry through the holiday weekend.
Rain chances increase more noticeably Wednesday as a broader weather system approaches the Midwest. Forecast models currently show a 30% to 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms across eastern Iowa and western Illinois by Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Residents planning outdoor work, travel or late-week events are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as midweek rain coverage becomes clearer. Additional advisories may be issued if stronger thunderstorms develop later this week.
