Davenport, Iowa – Multiple rounds of storms today could disrupt travel and daily routines, with a stronger and more dangerous wave expected late this afternoon into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in the Quad Cities, an initial line of storms will move through between 7 a.m. and noon, mainly impacting areas along and south of the Highway 34 corridor. While this morning round may produce gusty winds, it will also influence how unstable the atmosphere becomes ahead of a second round later today.

The primary concern shifts to between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m., when conditions may support severe thunderstorms across eastern Iowa and western Illinois. Areas south of Highway 34—including Burlington, Macomb, and Quincy—are under an enhanced risk (level 3 of 5), while locations like Davenport, Iowa City, and Cedar Rapids remain under a slight risk (level 2 of 5). Storms could produce damaging winds over 60 mph, large hail, and tornadoes, especially if discrete supercells develop.

Major routes including I-80, I-74, and U.S. 61 could see sudden visibility drops and hazardous driving during peak storm times. Residents should have multiple ways to receive warnings, review shelter plans, and be ready to act quickly if alerts are issued.

Storm coverage and intensity will become clearer after the morning round exits. Additional warnings are likely later today, with updates expected within hours.
