Pueblo, CO – A Pueblo County woman has been sentenced to 45 years in the Colorado Department of Corrections after pleading guilty to second-degree murder and misdemeanor child abuse in the death of a 3-year-old boy.

According to the Pueblo County Sheriff’s Office, Brittany Farmer, 40, was sentenced this week for her role in the June 2024 incident. Deputies were called to a home after reports of an unresponsive child, who was later transported to a Colorado Springs hospital and pronounced dead on June 13, 2024.

Investigators said the child showed visible injuries, and further investigation revealed additional signs of abuse involving a 14-year-old boy. Farmer was arrested alongside the child’s mother, Samantha Kimberly, 39, whose case remains ongoing in Pueblo County Court.

Sheriff David J. Lucero described the case as “one of the worst instances of child abuse” he has encountered in his 24-year law enforcement career.

“The sentence reflects the severity of the crime and is a critical step in holding those responsible accountable,” Lucero said in a statement.

Both Farmer and Kimberly remain in custody at the Pueblo County Jail as court proceedings continue.
