Pueblo, Colorado – Showers and thunderstorms will build across southern Colorado this afternoon, with the greatest impact expected north of Highway 50 where stronger storms could disrupt travel by late day.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, storm chances will increase through the afternoon, especially along and north of the U.S. 50 corridor, including Colorado Springs and areas near the Palmer Divide. One or two storms could strengthen, bringing gusty winds and brief heavy rain capable of slowing traffic.
Roads such as I-25, U.S. 50, and Highway 24 may see reduced visibility and slick conditions during heavier showers, particularly between 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. Communities including Pueblo, Cañon City, and Trinidad will see more isolated activity, while northern zones face a higher likelihood of storms.
Temperatures will range from the upper 50s in mountain areas to the low 70s across the plains. While winds will be lighter than previous days, spotty fire weather conditions remain possible along the southern I-25 corridor due to dry pockets and intermittent gusts.
Residents should monitor skies this afternoon, avoid outdoor activities during thunderstorms, and be prepared for rapidly changing conditions. Drivers should slow down in rain and watch for sudden wind gusts.
Storm activity will taper later this evening, with additional updates expected as conditions develop through the afternoon.
