Poughkeepsie, NY – A bicyclist was tragically killed in a collision with a truck on Thursday evening in the Town of Poughkeepsie. The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. on Vassar Road (County Route 77) near Malmros Terrace, prompting an immediate response from local authorities.
According to the Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department, the collision involved a 2014 Dodge Ram 2500, driven by a 60-year-old local resident, heading south on Vassar Road. Preliminary reports suggest that the bicyclist was traveling north on the south side of the road when they crossed into the truck’s path, resulting in the collision. The bicyclist was promptly transported to a nearby hospital but was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the truck remained at the scene and is cooperating fully with the investigation. Vassar Road was temporarily closed as police documented the scene and gathered evidence.
