ORLAND PARK – An alleged ‘Porch Pirate’ has been arrested following ‘numerous tips’ by local homeowners.
According to Orland Park Police, the arrest was made Tuesday nearly a week after a mysterious figure was spotted removing a recently delivered package from a woman’s porch last Thursday. Police had shared a video of the encounter last week asking the public for help in identifying the man.
“A RING camera captured the offender stealing the package. THUMBone must have an idea of who he is. Can anyone think of anything that would come in HANDy?” Orland Park Police asked residents at the time of the post. “We think we FINGERED out his method. The offender parked across the street in a vehicle (possibly a 2018 Kia Sorento) until the delivery driver leaves. He wears a police-style badge on a chain holder and is PALMing some papers.”
Investigators later learned another homeowner, on the same block, reported a similar incident which lead to the arrest of William Rivera, 61, of Chicago this week on two counts of theft.
According to investigators, Rivera had been in the area working as a process server, which accounted for the badge around his neck.
