Oswego, IL – Authorities are investigating after a body was discovered in the Fox River near the Washington Street bridge on Monday evening in Oswego.
According to a statement from the Oswego Police Department, officers were dispatched around 5:24 p.m. after a caller reported seeing something unusual in the river near the 100 block of West Washington Street. Upon arrival, police deployed a drone that located what appeared to be a body lying in shallow water near an island, roughly 100 yards southwest of the bridge.
The Oswego Fire Protection District responded to assist with the recovery and confirmed that the individual was deceased. The body was recovered and transported to the coroner’s office, where an autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
Oswego Police say an investigation into the incident is ongoing. No further details about the identity of the individual or the circumstances surrounding the discovery have been released.
