POCATELLO, Idaho – A hard freeze is on the way for much of eastern Idaho, with temperatures expected to dip as low as 27 degrees by early Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service in Pocatello issued a Freeze Warning for the Lower and Upper Snake River Plain, including rural areas near Arco and Mud Lake, where frost could be severe.

According to the National Weather Service, the warning remains in effect from 1 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesday, and conditions could destroy late-season crops and sensitive vegetation. Urban centers like Idaho Falls and Pocatello may hover near the freezing mark, but nearby agricultural zones will see the brunt of the chill.

Residents are urged to cover outdoor plants, bring pets inside, and drain or insulate exposed plumbing to avoid burst pipes. Farmers across the Snake River Plain are especially advised to take preventive action before nightfall.

Temperatures will moderate slightly after sunrise Wednesday, but another round of frosty mornings is possible later this week as clear skies persist.

Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday morning.
