Plainfield, IL – Commuters in Will County faced morning delays Friday after a deadly crash shut the intersection of 119th Street and Route 30 in Plainfield, a southwest Chicago suburb.

According to a Plainfield Police Department press release, the collision happened around 6:05 a.m. Friday when a black 2023 Chevrolet Malibu, traveling south on Route 30, attempted a left turn onto eastbound 119th Street and failed to yield to a northbound 2025 Harley-Davidson motorcycle. The motorcyclist was taken to Rush Copley Medical Center in Aurora and later pronounced dead; the person’s identity is being withheld pending family notification .

Police said the Chevrolet’s driver remained on scene and is cooperating with investigators. No other injuries were reported. The intersection was temporarily closed while Plainfield Police and the Illinois State Police conducted crash reconstruction and an on-scene investigation. As of publication, no citations or charges had been issued and the case remains active .

Drivers using Route 30 through Plainfield—especially those traveling between Joliet and Naperville—should expect residual delays as traffic normalizes. Left-turn movements at busy suburban intersections continue to be a focus for traffic-safety officials because of the higher risk to motorcyclists who have less protection in a crash.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Sergeant Dino Dabezic at 815-267-7238, police said. Commander Kevin McQuaid is the department contact listed on the release (main line: 815-436-6544) .
