Amarillo, TX – A surge of cold air behind this weekend’s front will bring freezing to hard-freezing temperatures early Monday morning, according to the National Weather Service in Amarillo.

Forecasters say there is a 70–90% chance of temperatures at or below 32°F across much of the northern and western Texas Panhandle, including Dalhart, Dumas, and Guymon. Areas farther south, including Amarillo, Vega, and Clarendon, face a 40–70% chance of dropping to freezing.

The coldest spots could see lows near 28°F or colder, particularly in the northern Panhandle, where a hard freeze is likely. The chill will settle in late Sunday night into early Monday, marking one of the coldest mornings of the fall season so far.

Meteorologists advise residents to cover or bring in sensitive outdoor plants, disconnect hoses, and protect pets and pipes. The cold will follow a strong front passing through on Saturday, ushering in clear skies and dry air that will allow temperatures to plummet overnight.
