Plainfield: 12-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Hit by Car on Route 59

Plainfield, IL – A 12-year-old girl has died after being struck by a car following a traffic collision on Route 59 in Plainfield. The tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, around 8:36 p.m., as reported by the Plainfield Police Department.

The series of events started when a 2009 Nissan Rogue, stationed at a stop sign on Riverwalk Court, attempted to turn onto Route 59 without yielding, leading to a collision with a 2004 Toyota Rav4. In the aftermath, the young passenger from the Nissan, identified by authorities as Gianna Lamb, ran from the scene and was hit by a 2012 Ford Fusion driving northbound on Route 59.

Emergency responders quickly transported Lamb to Ascension Saint Joseph Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The Illinois State Police are conducting a thorough traffic reconstruction to investigate the incident further. The crash led to the temporary closure of the involved roadway, managed by the Plainfield Emergency Management Agency, which has since been reopened.
