Phoenix, Arizona – Drivers and outdoor workers across the Valley will feel a fast-building heat surge by Sunday afternoon, with temperatures climbing to 96°F after a brief stretch of breezy conditions through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Phoenix, a passing system north of Arizona will trigger locally gusty winds through Friday evening before high pressure builds in, pushing temperatures well above seasonal norms through early next week. Afternoon highs will rise from the upper 80s Thursday to the mid-90s by Sunday.

Across Maricopa County, cities including Mesa, Chandler, and Glendale will see increasing sun exposure and dry air, raising dehydration risks during peak afternoon hours. Along I-10 and Loop 202 corridors, drivers may encounter crosswinds Friday, especially in open desert stretches. Utility demand is also expected to tick upward as cooling systems run longer into the evening.

Yuma and El Centro follow a similar trend, climbing into the low to mid-90s by Sunday, while maintaining dry conditions and clear skies. Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat, and check vehicle coolant levels before long drives.

The warming trend holds into early next week, with minor heat risk lingering and additional advisories possible if temperatures continue climbing.
