New Castle, DE – Delaware State Police arrested Wayne Burnett-Preyer, 35, of Philadelphia, after a road rage incident on Friday escalated into a physical altercation and felony charges.

At 3 p.m., troopers responded to North Dupont Highway and School Lane after witnesses reported aggressive driving and a confrontation. Investigators revealed Burnett-Preyer followed two 20-year-old men traveling on Route 1 near the Roth Bridge. The victims stated that Burnett-Preyer, driving a white Ford pickup, tailgated them before abruptly braking to avoid a collision.

Despite changing lanes to avoid Burnett-Preyer, the victims reported he pursued them through Newport and other areas. Witnesses said Burnett-Preyer blocked their vehicle at intersections, exited his truck, and aggressively confronted them. Concerned motorists called 911, prompting police response.

The victims called a 19-year-old friend for assistance, but Burnett-Preyer allegedly pursued all three individuals until troopers intercepted him at the Dash-In on North Dupont Highway. A search of his truck uncovered a loaded handgun and marijuana.

Burnett-Preyer faces multiple felony charges, including weapon and drug violations. He was released on a $4,200 secured bond after arraignment.
