Detroit, MI – The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for ten Midwest states, including Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, and Kansas. Snowfall across the region is expected to create hazardous road conditions through the weekend.
According to the advisory, snow totals will vary, with areas such as central and northern West Virginia and parts of Missouri expecting accumulations of 3 to 6 inches. In contrast, Kentucky, Indiana, and parts of southern Illinois may see lighter totals, ranging from 1 to 3 inches. The heaviest snowfall is forecast to occur Saturday evening into Sunday morning.
Authorities urge caution for holiday travelers as slick and icy roads are anticipated, particularly on bridges and overpasses. Temperatures are projected to drop below freezing, exacerbating hazardous driving conditions. Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and use 511 services for real-time road updates in their respective states.
The advisory remains in effect through late Sunday night or early Monday, depending on the region. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and prepare emergency supplies for their vehicles.
