Peoria Police Arrest Two in Connection with Murder of 10-Year-Old Boy

Peoria, IL – A 33-year-old man and a 14-year-old juvenile have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 10-year-old boy in Peoria.

The shooting occurred on Sunday, September 29, on the 6000 block of W. RB Garrett. Peoria police arrived after receiving a ShotSpotter alert of two gunshots. Officers found the young victim with a gunshot wound, who was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

On October 1, police identified Maurice D. Sargent, 33, as a suspect. He was arrested during a traffic stop without incident and charged with first-degree murder and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon.

On Wednesday, detectives also arrested a 14-year-old boy, charging him with attempted armed robbery in connection to the case. Both suspects remain in custody.
