Joliet, IL – The Will County Sheriff’s Office has received a generous donation of bullet and stab protective vests for their K9 officers. K9s Lizzy, Ryker, Malice, Riggs, Loki, Cap, Shep, and Chase now have added protection thanks to non-profit Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the custom-fitted, NIJ-certified vests were provided at no cost, protecting the department’s four-legged officers. Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., founded in 2009, has donated over 5,700 vests to law enforcement dogs in all 50 states.
The program helps K9 officers across the United States. The non-profit organization has provided $6.9 million in vests through donations from the public and private corporations. Each vest, valued at $1,800, offers protection for up to five years.
The charity’s mission is to protect K9s that are at least 20 months old and actively employed with law enforcement. The organization accepts donations online to fund this vital equipment. For more information, visit www.vik9s.org.
