Peoria, IL – Multiple shooting incidents across Peoria on Sunday have left one person dead and two teenagers injured, prompting an active and ongoing investigation by local authorities.
According to the Peoria Police Department, officers first responded around 5:37 p.m. to Stadium Park after reports of gunfire. Two juvenile victims, ages 16 and 17, were found with gunshot wounds. One teen suffered injuries to the chest, while the other was struck in the upper arm. Both were transported to a local hospital for treatment. During the investigation, officers determined one of the victims was in possession of a stolen firearm.
Roughly an hour later, at 6:33 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 6700 block of North Mountello for another report of shots fired. Police located damage to a vehicle and a nearby residence, but no injuries were reported at that scene.
At approximately 7:16 p.m., officers responded to Bradley Park, where they encountered a chaotic scene involving multiple individuals fleeing on foot and in vehicles. Officers located a 17-year-old male suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced deceased.
Investigators say the incidents may be connected to two groups exchanging gunfire near a park shelter. Multiple locations within the park were found with evidence of shots fired.
The identity of the deceased and the official cause of death will be released by the Peoria County Coroner.
