State College, PA – A winter storm will bring a dangerous mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain to central Pennsylvania starting Wednesday afternoon. Hazardous road conditions are expected, making travel difficult through Thursday.

According to the National Weather Service, snow is expected to begin after 1 p.m. Wednesday before transitioning into a wintry mix by the evening. Freezing rain, sleet, and ice accumulation are likely overnight, creating slick and potentially dangerous roads. Winds could gust up to 20 mph, reducing visibility.

Thursday morning will see continued freezing rain before transitioning to rain later in the day, with temperatures reaching 43°F. Ice accumulation could lead to power outages and hazardous travel on major roads, including I-99 and U.S. Route 322.

Residents should prepare for possible delays and power outages. Drivers are urged to avoid travel if possible, especially during peak freezing periods Wednesday night into Thursday morning.

Looking ahead, Friday will bring a break with mostly sunny skies and a high of 34°F, but another storm system could bring more snow and freezing rain by Saturday.

Stay updated on road conditions and prepare for winter travel disruptions.
