Fort Wayne, IN – Northern Indiana residents should prepare for hazardous travel conditions as freezing rain moves in Wednesday night, followed by a chance of snow this weekend.
The National Weather Service warns that a wintry mix will develop late Wednesday evening, transitioning to all rain overnight. With temperatures dropping to near 30°F, ice accumulation on roads and sidewalks is possible, creating slick conditions for early Thursday commuters. Drivers on I-69, I-469, and other local highways should use caution and allow extra time for travel.
Thursday’s forecast brings some relief, with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 42°F. Winds from the west could reach 15 mph, helping to dry roads as temperatures rise. Thursday night will be partly cloudy, with a low of 24°F.
Friday remains calm, with partly sunny skies and a high of 32°F. However, another storm system is expected to arrive Saturday, bringing a mix of rain and snow in the afternoon. The precipitation chance is 70%, and temperatures will hover in the mid-30s.
Saturday night could see a transition to freezing rain or snow before clearing out by early Sunday. Roads may become slick once again, especially on untreated surfaces. Sunday’s forecast calls for partly sunny skies and a high near 34°F, offering a brief break from winter weather.
Drivers should monitor forecasts closely and check road conditions before heading out. Officials urge caution on bridges and overpasses, which tend to freeze first. Those with weekend travel plans should stay updated on possible winter weather advisories.
