Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Thunderstorms packing gusty winds and intense downpours could disrupt Sunday plans across western Pennsylvania, with Pittsburgh in the storm’s direct path by mid-afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, a Marginal Risk (Level 1 of 5) for severe weather is in effect Sunday, June 29, for Allegheny County and surrounding areas. Damaging winds are the primary concern, especially between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., with locally heavy rainfall also raising the threat of flash flooding in low-lying zones and near major routes like Interstate 376.

High temperatures will spike to around 90°F, increasing afternoon storm energy. Showers and isolated thunderstorms may develop as early as midday, but the strongest cells are expected during peak heating hours. While spotter activation isn’t currently expected, residents are urged to secure outdoor items, avoid flooded roads, and monitor power-dependent devices in case of outages.

Looking ahead, Monday night into early Tuesday may bring another round of strong storms and heavy rain, continuing the unsettled trend. The pattern could impact early Independence Day planning, especially for outdoor events.
