Pennsylvania – Darkening skies and building humidity will give way to strong storms later today, with damaging wind gusts and heavy rain threatening travel across the Pittsburgh area.

According to the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh, showers and thunderstorms develop this afternoon and evening, with an 80% chance of rain and wind gusts reaching up to 31 mph. Some storms could turn strong, producing damaging winds, small hail, and even an isolated tornado.

Across Allegheny County and nearby areas, conditions will deteriorate quickly after midday. Storms will intensify into the evening, creating slick roads on I-376, I-79, and Route 28. Visibility may drop during heavier downpours. Plan extra travel time and avoid unnecessary trips during peak storm activity.

Storms taper later, but unsettled weather lingers into Sunday with scattered showers and cooler air. Highs fall into the mid-50s, and winds remain breezy. By Sunday night, temperatures drop toward the mid-30s, and a brief rain-to-snow mix is possible in higher elevations, though no accumulation is expected.

The bigger shift arrives Monday morning. Skies clear, but temperatures fall sharply to around 29°F. Any leftover moisture could refreeze, creating isolated icy spots on bridges and untreated roads. Use caution during the early commute.

Sunshine returns Monday afternoon and continues into Tuesday, with highs rebounding into the 60s. A steady warm-up follows midweek, bringing more typical spring conditions back to western Pennsylvania.
