Uniontown, PA – A decades-old Fayette County murder case is back in the spotlight as Pennsylvania State Police renew efforts to solve the 1993 Halloween night killing of Lori Lynn Caric.

The 32-year-old mother of two was gunned down by a 12-gauge shotgun blast in North Union Township as she arrived home from a night of Halloween celebrations. She was dressed in a witch costume when the fatal shooting occurred near Monroe Street behind the Back Porch Restaurant, shortly after 1:30 a.m.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police Troop B – Uniontown Station, Caric had been out with friends at bars in Hopwood and was returning to her apartment when she was shot while inserting her key into the door. Three male companions were walking with or behind her at the time and initially thought the sound was unrelated—until Caric collapsed, reportedly saying, “I think I’m hit.”

Witnesses described the alleged gunman as a white male, between 5-foot-7 and 5-foot-8, heavily built, appearing in his late 40s with a receding hairline and wearing a plaid flannel shirt. Caric died from a massive internal hemorrhage caused by a single gunshot that pierced her upper chest and shoulder.

Investigators have not identified a suspect, and the case remains unsolved more than 30 years later.

A $5,000 reward is now being offered for information that leads to an arrest or resolution of the case. Tips can be provided by contacting the PSP Uniontown Station at 724-439-7111, calling PSP Tips toll-free at 1-800-472-8477, or submitting a report online at p3tips.com.
