Pennsylvania – A thin glaze clings to windshields and bridge decks this morning as temperatures sit at 31 degrees in Philadelphia, creating pockets of freezing fog and hidden slick spots across the metro. Early sunlight reflects off damp pavement along I-95 and the Schuylkill Expressway, where untreated ramps may still hold black ice.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, patchy freezing fog expanded across southeastern Pennsylvania, northern Delaware, and southern New Jersey through the early morning hours. Temperatures remain below freezing in some neighborhoods, allowing moisture and leftover snowmelt to refreeze. Visibility may drop suddenly in fog-prone areas.
Conditions improve by late morning as sunshine builds and highs climb toward 52 degrees. Southwest winds increase near 5 mph. That warming trend will reduce the ice threat, but shaded sidewalks could stay slick for a few more hours. Move slowly on foot and allow extra braking distance if driving.
Sunday brings a noticeable cooldown. Highs fall to near 41 degrees with a 50 percent chance of rain after 1 p.m. Less than a tenth of an inch is expected, but colder air Sunday night will drop lows to 19 degrees. Any leftover moisture could refreeze, raising flash freeze concerns into early Monday.
Monday turns mostly sunny but colder, with highs near 33. By Tuesday, rain and snow become likely before 1 p.m., then change to rain as highs reach the low 40s. Rain chances linger into Wednesday with highs rebounding into the low 50s.
March begins Sunday, and after this brief late-winter chill, a milder pattern may develop late next week. Long-range trends suggest above-normal temperatures building by the end of the week.
