Philadelphia, PA – The Philadelphia region will bake under an oppressive stretch of extreme heat beginning Sunday, with dangerous conditions expected to last through at least Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, Extreme Heat Warnings are now in effect across southeastern Pennsylvania, central and southern New Jersey, and northern Delaware. Monday and Tuesday will bring the peak of the heat, with heat index values soaring as high as 109°F in Philadelphia, Trenton, and Wilmington. The city is poised to record its first 100-degree day since 2012.
Allentown, Morristown, and Vineland are also under warnings, while surrounding counties remain under Heat Advisories. Nighttime temperatures in the mid to upper 70s will offer little relief, increasing health risks for vulnerable populations.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on elderly neighbors. Power grids may be strained as cooling demands surge, so conserve electricity when possible. Public cooling centers are expected to open in several counties, and schools with limited air conditioning may close or adjust schedules.
This marks one of the region’s most prolonged and dangerous heat events in over a decade.
⚠️ Warnings remain in effect through Wednesday, with additional advisories possible if conditions persist.
