Pittsburgh, PA – A late-season chill will blanket parts of the Mid-Atlantic overnight as a frost advisory takes effect from 1 a.m. to 8 a.m. Monday, threatening sensitive plants across higher elevations and valleys.

According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to dip into the low to mid-30s across portions of Pennsylvania, West Virginia, western Maryland, and western New York. The advisory spans counties such as Forest, Clearfield, and Potter in PA; Western Garrett in MD; and Grant, Randolph, and Pocahontas in WV.

Gardeners and growers should take immediate steps to protect tender plants. Officials advise covering vegetation or bringing potted plants indoors. Even brief exposure to frost could kill unprotected seedlings and flowers.

In New York’s Southern Tier, Cattaraugus and Allegany counties may see frost settle in valley areas by 7 a.m. Meanwhile, mountain towns like Davis, WV and Thomas, WV could face sharp drops near 33°F. This marks the latest widespread frost event since early June 2017 in the region.

With more unseasonably cool nights possible later this week, residents are urged to monitor additional advisories from the National Weather Service.
