Pedestrian Killed in St. Landry Parish: Louisiana Highway 31 Near Arnaudville Crash Under Investigation

St. Landry Parish, LA – A Lafayette man was killed in a fatal pedestrian crash on Louisiana Highway 31, near Melanie Lane. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 8:00 p.m. and is currently under investigation by Louisiana State Police Troop I.

According to Troopers, 23-year-old Denzel Flugence was struck by a northbound 2002 Chevrolet Tahoe while in the roadway. Flugence sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tahoe’s driver was uninjured and properly restrained at the time of the crash.

Troopers found no signs of impairment in the driver, who voluntarily passed a breathalyzer test. Routine toxicology samples were obtained from Flugence and are awaiting analysis.

Louisiana State Police urge pedestrians and drivers to stay vigilant, especially in low-visibility areas. Wearing reflective clothing and avoiding poorly lit roadways can prevent many pedestrian crashes. Motorists should also avoid distractions and remain focused on their surroundings. The investigation into this tragic crash remains ongoing.
