Gold Beach, OR — A magnitude 2.8 earthquake struck near Gold Beach early Saturday morning, causing minor tremors across the region. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) recorded the earthquake at 7:00 a.m. UTC, located 8 kilometers southeast of Gold Beach at a depth of 8.1 kilometers. While the earthquake was relatively mild, residents in the area are being asked, “Did you feel it?”

According to USGS, the quake was part of ongoing seismic activity along the Pacific coast, an area known for frequent low-magnitude earthquakes. The event did not cause any reported damage, but residents are encouraged to report their experiences to USGS for better seismic mapping.

Residents in nearby towns may have felt light shaking. Those who experienced the tremor can contribute to citizen science efforts by filling out a “felt report” on the USGS website. This data helps scientists better understand the impact of small quakes.
