Shortly after, a second earthquake, slightly stronger at a 2.9 magnitude, occurred just two minutes later at 4:27 a.m. The second quake was located 34 kilometers west-southwest of Ackerly. Residents in nearby cities such as Midland and Odessa may have felt the back-to-back tremors.
According to the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), both earthquakes were relatively shallow, with depths of 1.6 kilometers and 8.1 kilometers, respectively. There have been no reports of damage or injuries so far, but residents are encouraged to share their experiences.
