Pendleton, OR – A prolonged period of heavy rain and snowmelt could lead to elevated river levels and possible flooding across southern and central Washington early next week.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) Pendleton, rain will arrive late Saturday and continue through Monday, increasing flows in rivers and streams. Forecasters predict a 10-30% chance of minor flooding as waterways rise toward or above bankfull levels. The Upper Yakima, Naches, and Klickitat basins are at the greatest risk for high flows.
Residents in low-lying areas are urged to stay alert for potential flooding and report any high water levels to authorities. The NWS advises people to monitor forecasts closely and avoid traveling through flooded roadways.
