According to the National Weather Service, Eugene warms from the upper 40s this morning to near 71 degrees this afternoon, with clouds gradually thinning after early gray skies .
The early travel window includes slick spots on OR-126, I-5, and surface roads through downtown Eugene and Springfield. Light moisture and cloud cover may briefly reduce visibility near low-lying intersections and river-adjacent corridors along the Willamette River.
This is part of a broader Pacific Northwest shift, where weak systems exit and high pressure builds, allowing temperatures to climb rapidly heading into the weekend.
By Saturday, a slight chance of showers lingers, mainly before midday, but impacts remain minimal. Roads may briefly turn slick again, especially on untreated surfaces and shaded rural routes west toward Veneta.
The bigger change arrives Sunday. Highs surge to around 86 degrees, a noticeable jump that brings early summer warmth to Eugene, Corvallis, and Albany. Pavement heats quickly, and afternoon exposure becomes a factor for outdoor plans.
Looking ahead to early next week, temperatures ease back into the low 70s Monday before mid-70s return Tuesday. Clouds increase at times, but dry conditions dominate and travel remains smooth.
No severe storms are expected, and tornado risk remains very low. Still, rapid temperature swings can catch people off guard, especially during long outdoor stretches.
