Springfield, OR – A Springfield man was arrested early Saturday morning after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop, leading deputies on a high-speed chase before crashing into a property gate, authorities said.
According to the Lane County Sheriffโs Office, the incident began just after midnight on Highway 126 at Pioneer Parkway when deputies attempted to stop an Acura Integra for a traffic violation. Instead of pulling over, the driver, identified as 21-year-old David Stewart Hernandez-German of Springfield, allegedly accelerated south on Pioneer Parkway and onto S. 2nd Street.
Deputies said the vehicle eventually crashed into the security gate at Dorris Ranch, causing significant property damage. A passenger inside the car was injured during the crash. Investigators also reported finding a concealed handgun in Hernandez-Germanโs possession.
After the crash, Hernandez-German was taken into custody and booked into the Lane County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including attempt to elude a police officer by vehicle, reckless driving, fourth-degree assault, reckless endangering, second-degree criminal mischief, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
Authorities did not immediately release details on the extent of the passengerโs injuries. The sheriffโs office said the investigation remains ongoing.
