Tulsa, OK – Gusty northerly winds will impact eastern Oklahoma today, with speeds reaching 30-35 mph in areas along the I-44 corridor. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns residents to secure outdoor items and drive cautiously due to sudden wind gusts, which may cause hazardous conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles.
According to the NWS, the strong winds are a result of a cold front that moved through the region overnight. Gusts are expected to diminish by late afternoon, with wind speeds dropping to 10-15 mph by evening. Cooler conditions will persist, with highs today reaching only 45°F under increasing cloud cover.
Looking ahead, the Tulsa area will see sunny skies on Wednesday, with a high near 48°F and calmer winds from the northwest. By Thursday, temperatures will climb to the upper 50s as southerly winds return. There’s a slight chance of showers late Friday night, though most of the week will remain dry and seasonable.
Residents are advised to avoid outdoor burning today due to elevated fire weather concerns. While the fire spread risk remains limited, drier air and gusty conditions could exacerbate potential flare-ups.
